Here we are at the second issue of Slingshot the Magazine and I thank you for your subscription. Please tell everyone about the magazine because I need all the subscriptions that I can get to keep the magazine going.

Kevin and I are trying to make improvement changes as we do each issue. I think the cover is a good improvement. By the way, that is Kevin on the cover. I want you fathers to notice what can happen with form and shooting style when you start teaching your children to shoot at the age of five.

The 2000 Summer Nationals Slingshot Tournament is in the first planning stages. The theme of the SNST will be Cowboy Shooting. I have been watching the growth of the sport of Cowboy Action Shooting and think we can do the same sort of thing with the sport of catapultry and slingshot shooting. For the rifle and shotgun shooting, we can use the extended fork type of slingshot. For the "rifle type" shooting we can use the silhouettes and shoot the standard round at a longer distance. As for "shotgun shooting" it might be possible to shoot at clay pigeons and use multiple shot in the pouch. We have already been using a small slingshot for some events and that can serve as the "derringer" weapon from Cowboy Action Shooting. The "pistol shooting" would be any slingshot and we could use many of the events used before at the SNST. The Texas Shoot and Speed Round have to be part of it. Knocking down all 5-disk targets in the shortest time (regardless of how many shots it takes) is a suggested event.

Please give this some thought and maybe you might have some suggestions for events. At the very least you might want to starting practicing.

I would also like to work in some other events that I think would be fun to participate in or just watch. Things like atlatl, knife, tomahawk, and boomerang throwing would be great fun to do. Several slingshot enthusiasts are interested or already involved with these sports. Archery is a natural for slingshot shooters and there have been many arrow-shooting slingshots over the years.

I'm getting a lot of requests for information about finding the best slingshot. As many of you may already know, I have made that quest and come away more confused than when I started. The "best slingshot" depends on both the shooter and the shooter's needs. All of the slingshots currently on the market will be individually considered the "best slingshot" by someone. I can personally recommend any of the current slingshot models. See the article in this issue, You Can Never Have Two Many Slingshots, to read more about my feelings on the "best slingshot".
